Meet Thomas L. Coleman Jr.

Tom Coleman redefines bike fitting with a science-backed approach, boasting over 20 years of experience and 80,000+ blueprint solutions. His expertise centers on the critical shoe/pedal interface, optimizing energy transfer and reducing inefficiencies that cause wear, wobble, and pain. Unlike conventional methods, he assesses the entire body under varying conditions, ensuring peak performance for both pros and amateurs since 2001.

Beyond fitting, Coleman educates and innovates. His company, 3DWearable, introduces the Total Optimized Motion (T.O.M.) system, using lab-grade IMUs to provide real-time movement feedback. These wearable sensors enhance technique, prevent injuries, and accelerate recovery—all with practical, real-world application. Continuously advancing with kinesiology research, Coleman delivers results that cyclists can feel firsthand.

Our Tailored Fit Experience

Our process kicks off with a one-on-one chat to pinpoint your riding goals and challenges. From there, we assess your skeletal structure and flexibility to understand your body’s range. Then, we measure your bike’s geometry to capture its current setup. Using this info, we craft a WN Precision CAD Blueprint customized for your ride. This detailed plan pinpoints exact adjustments—like cleat placement on your shoes, saddle position, and the reach to your handlebars. As we dial in these specs, we collaborate with you to tweak handlebar height and angle, plus brake and shifter placement, aligning every contact point to your unique motion and riding style. Expect the initial session to run 2.5 to 3 hours, with a follow-up visit included to ensure everything’s perfect.

Cleat Placement

Cycling’s popularity is soaring, but its repetitive motion can cause problems if cleats are too far forward, leading to foot pain from nerve and blood vessel pressure. The legs power the bike, handling heavy joint loads that can wear down tissues and cause knee pain. The shoe-pedal connection is key—done right, it boosts efficiency; done wrong, it piles on harmful stress. Historically, studies overlooked this link, despite common leg injuries. New pedal designs with “float” let the foot rotate slightly, cutting injury risk, easing knee strain, and keeping performance strong.

3DWearable

3DWearables focuses on enhancing physical performance through its Total Optimized Motion (T.O.M.) system. This wearable technology is designed for activities such as running, cycling, golf, and strength training, providing real-time feedback to improve form and act like a personal coach. It’s particularly useful for athletes and coaches looking to optimize performance and for rehabilitation specialists aiding in return-to-play scenarios.
The T.O.M. system employs Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors, which combine accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers. These sensors measure key movement parameters:
  • Acceleration: for rapid movements like sprints.
  • Deceleration: for controlled stops.
  • Angular Velocity: for rotational movements like spins.
  • Orientation: tracking 3D position.
Sensors are applied to specific body landmarks, capturing the full range of motion and designating a “Zone of Motion” with warnings if limits are exceeded, ensuring safe and effective training.
